FunnelScope Funnies: Mmmm…Piranha

by Kul

This is the sixth post of FunnelScope Funnies series focusing on fun and interesting travel stories to highlight our alpha launch of FunnelScope.

Continuing with stories in the Amazon from my previous post, one of the days our group went out in canoes to fish for piranha. Fishing required a rope, hook, and pieces of red meat. We would stick the rope in the water and when we felt a nibble would pull up as hard as possible (without falling out of the canoe since then the situation can quickly reverse…that’s one definite downside of fishing for piranha!). The following photo highlights the fruits of my labor.

As you can see, I didn’t do too bad. I have to say, it was a very cool experience. But that’s not the best of it.

We brought the piranha back to our camp and the locals cooked the piranha we caught for us. At first I thought they were kidding. Who eats piranha? But sure enough, they brought out cooked piranha.

Hesitant, I had a bite of my catch…it was the tastiest fish I had ever eaten. It was tender and delicious. What an expected surprise! The only disappointment was that I had not caught more since it was so good.

Travel Lesson #5: When in the Amazon try the piranha…just make sure they don’t try you.
