Last week I gave you the 90-99 most socially active cities in the United States. This week I bring to you cities ranked 80-89. Each city or town has their own unique characteristics that make them special but what doesn’t separate any of them is that they all have a lot of people interacting online rather frequently.
A town you probably haven’t heard of ranking in at number 89 on our list of the most socially active cities in the United States is Banner Elk, NC with 2419 ratings. The reason you probably haven’t hear of Banner Elk is because according to the 2000 census there were under 1000 people living there. The area was settled by white settlers in 1848 by Martin L. Banner. It is said that the Cherokee Indians used this area for hunting and such but no significant evidence points to a settlement. The people of Banner Elk can thank Martin L. Banner for coming to the area and settling the area and starting the part of NC.
This city is one of the oldest cities in California. This city was founded around 1772. Ranking in at #88 is San Luis Obispo, CA with 2461 ratings of hotels from their social networks. San Luis Obispo or to some known as SLOtown has been referred to as “the happiest city in America” according to The National Geographic book, Thrive, by Dan Buettner. The history of this city runs deep from Chumash people from 5-10,000 years ago to having a flourish Chinese culture who constructed the Pacific Coast Railways. Mardi Gras used to be held here and was at one point one of the largest celebrations west of the Mississsippi, well until the crowds got too crazy and people were getting too drunk. That is our #88 city.
A little well known fact about our number 87 city is that it is a popular ski resort. This place has a base elevation of 8,600 feet! Where I am talking about is down south in New Mexico. Ranking in with 2467 responses is Angel Fire, NM. Also for the summer time they hold a pretty sweet festival called the Music from Angel Fire, where local bands come and play their hearts out.
At #86 this place is more of a resort than a city. This place caters to an exclusive resort. This place is called Little Torch Key, Florida. Little Torch Key was named after the torchwood tree and is just south of Big Pine Key. For divers, the incredible corals of Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary are only a few miles away. The exclusive resort, Little Palm Island, is located just offshore of Little Torch Key. With 2471 active responses Little Torch Key ranks in at 86.
Our #85 city has such a rich history to it that only Wikipedia could explain it. From being called Cayo Hueso where bones laid waste throughout the city to being the winter White House for many presidents. And hey David Robinson is from their so it can’t be that bad. With 2516 responses Key West is #85.
Kevin Durant is #84 on our list… I mean Durant, OK is our number 84 city. It just is by mere coincidence that Kevin Durant plays in Oklahoma. This city Even though it seems to be overshadowed by its counterparts (Oklahoma City and Tulsa) is the 3rd fastest growing city in Oklahoma. Please Durant, Oklahoma you guys are doing a great job out there, your 2627 responses on Funnelscope proves it. Keep up the good work!
Though our #83 city is minimal in stature it is a highly active city. At #83 Highwood, IL ranks in with 2652 responses. This city is not to be reckon with. 2 major accolades of this city are that It set the Guinness World Record for most bars per square mile and it was called “the toughest town in America” by President Theodore Roosevelt. Two accomplishments no other city can claim. I suggest going there for a good booze but don’t go there for a fight, well or go there for a fight because you will end up getting both.
