I decided I wanted to take a trip to Vegas with some friends a few years back. The only thing I knew about Vegas was the time when I was a kid in Vegas, which is awesome because of all the games and rides (which also means nothing to me now), when I turned 21 and I let my friend pick the hotel it ended up being
Circus Circus (a horrible hotel to go to when you just want to party), and from my friends who parents are high rollers so they always get the executive suites and get pampered so whatever they say doesn’t mean much because in order to be at that level you have got to have lots of expendable cash.
So I find myself confused with what is going on with Vegas and I decide to turn to cyberspace. To my surprise, no surprise at all, I realize that there are tons of review sites. I mean I go to yelp when I check out restaurants so what’s the big deal. I make my search through the endless reviews to figure out which hotel I should go to. I see some saying Bellagio, but of course the Bellagio is all fancy, Hard Rock looks cool, T.I has the boats, and Planet Hollywood.
The choices in Vegas are endless. So I read the reviews. The endless reviews hunting for the a review I can relate to because even though I don’t plan to stay in my hotel very much I want it to be reasonable.
I am thinking I have finally decided on a hotel but this is only after I have spent hours if not days trying to find the right hotel with a good deal. I hate this process of finding a hotel and wished it were easier.
I get to my hotel and of course I check in with Foursquare, I need those points, and I get this message from some company called Funnelscope asking about my check in. I say oh I just got here I’ll let you know later. But at the time I say the hotel looks great, via twitter. When I finish my trip I simply wrote @funnelscope saying I had a great time at my hotel.
Fast forward to January 1 2011 Funnelscope is online.
I am now planning a trip to Miami for my girlfriend and I. After my last experience with reviews I am fed up with the process of reviews. It took me way too long to find a connection with a review to make myself assured that I would enjoy my trip.
I noticed that when I checked in through foursquare during my last vacation I got a message from Funnelscope. I thought it was real easy how all I had to do was tweet my review. I check it out and bam I see hundreds, thousands of simple reviews on hotels via social media. I decide to sign in through Facebook and even better I see how many of my friends have checked in to a hotel in Miami.
Done I go ask one of my friends what they thought of the hotel and knowing that this person also went with his gf I know I can trust him. He tells me that he didn’t really like the one he was at but he saw that people at another hotel were having a good time. I go with his advice and not to my surprise the hotel is great.
I am done with reviews and am moving onto Funnelscope
